Welcome to the Transit Basics Series

Welcome to your one-stop resource for navigating Edmonton’s transit system. Whether you are a first-time rider, a daily commuter, or simply looking to brush up on your transit knowledge, this series is designed to help you ride with confidence.

In collaboration with Edmonton Transit Riders (ETR), we have developed these videos as a permanent, visual guide to fill informational gaps and provide practical, real-time instruction. Our goal is to make riding with ETS as accessible and intuitive as possible for everyone in our growing city.

What you will find in this series:

  • Fares & Payment: Master the “Tap to Pay” system, manage your Arc card, and learn how to apply for concessions.
  • Route Planning & LRT Lines: Learn how to effectively use transit apps and explore the connections between the Capital, Metro, and Valley lines.
  • Parking & Bikes: Step-by-step guides on using free Park & Ride lots, plus how to safely take your bike on buses and trains.
  • Specialized Transit: A breakdown of eligibility and booking for DATS and On-Demand transit services.
  • Reporting Concerns: Clear advice on when to use Transit Watch versus 311 to help keep our system safe and well-maintained.

This project was a true city-wide collaboration. We are deeply grateful to Councillors Keren Tang, Aaron Paquette, Michael Janz, Jon Morgan and Anne Stevenson for their vital participation and support in making this series a reality. A very special thank you also goes to Max Amerongen for bringing the project to life.

We hope these videos empower you to get where you need to go. We will see you out there!
